Exotic South Asian Music, Cuisine and Culture come to Toronto with the TD Festival of South Asia July 16-17, 2011
July 4, 2011. (Toronto, ON) TD Festival of South Asia creates a window into the East for Torontonians to celebrate and experience the culture and cuisine of South Asia. From Bhangra to Bollywood music, this event has all the ingredients to make festival visitors feel like world travelers.
The TD Festival of South Asia takes place on Gerrard street East between Greenwood and Coxwell streets on July 16 and 17 from 2 p.m. -11 p.m.
Providing phenomenal entertainment, the main stage showcases dancing, the beautiful and authentic South Asian music reflecting the Indian, Pakistani, Bangladesh and Sri Lankan cultures. New this year is the South Asia’s Got Talent taking place on the TD Stage from 5:30-8:30 pm on Saturday July 16th . Nine contestants have won the right through auditions to perform on stage and the visitor will vote on the winner. Also new is the South Asian Indie Film preview sponsored by the Ontario Government. The visitor can watch films and videos created by leading South Asian Indie Film talent right here in Ontario. As always, visitors will be enticed by the wonderful foods priced from one to six dollars provided by 20 different restaurants. And, of course, there is lots of entertainment for the children.
The Gerrard India Bazaar is a major component of the festival and is the largest South Asian bazaar in North America. "We are very proud to showcase our cuisine, culture and fashions to Toronto and look forward to welcoming everyone to the TD Festival of South Asia," says Mr. Kapoor, Chair of the Gerrard India Bazaar.
